The Red River Valley Speedway had their first race of the year on Wed. May 26. It was an exciting but sad day walking to the new track after getting there. I was excited to see the new track and think about what the races would be like on the new 3/8 mile track. It was also sad to look around and see parts of the old big ½ mile track still there. By looking around at the old track all kinds of memories came to mind. Memories of the good nights with wins or good runs came to mind but also some of the bad nights where we didn’t have the best of luck.
Before we know it, it was time for the Supers to go out on the track. Both Erik and Kevin were in the same heat. Kevin had some trouble in the heat and ended up losing the nose piece to his car. Erik had a good run with an ok finish to his heat race. After doing some work getting the nose back on the 11R and a little set-up changes to both cars we were ready for the feature. Erik started about mid pack but because Kevin had trouble in his heat, he had to start 24th. The first half of the race Erik looked really good. The car looked like it was working good in the middle of the track. Erik made some nice passes and started to work his way up. Later on in the race the middle line went away so Erik had to move to the bottom. The car went away on him so he then fell back some but still had an ok mid pack finish. Kevin had to start dead last but he didn’t stay there long. Kevin’s car was working ok for him and he was able to pass cars on the low side and high side to work his way up to a nice 10th place finish. We didn’t have the finish that we wanted at the beginning of the night but it ended up being a good night for Team Robertson.
